Muhammad Afzal Naqshbandi – Nasheed / Naat Artist Rochdale

We are honoured to present a heartfelt and inspiring podcast interview with Muhammad Afzal Naqshbandi, a beloved local naat and nasheed artist from Rochdale, UK. Born and raised in the town, Afzal’s story is one rooted in deep spirituality, dedication, and a lifelong passion for recitation.

Afzal began his journey at the tender age of just 8 years old. In the interview, he reflects on his very first recitation in 1995 at the Golden Mosque—a moment that would go on to shape the path of his life. He shares vivid memories of that experience and how it ignited his love for expressing devotion through voice.

One of the key insights Afzal offers is the meaning behind “Naqshbandi.” He explains that it is not his surname, but rather a spiritual title, signifying his connection and allegiance (bayt) to the Naqshbandi Sufi order. His spiritual guide is Pir Syed Muhammad Shabeer Ali Shah from Chura Shareef, Attock, Pakistan, who have played a significant role in his journey.

Afzal is closely associated with Jamia Hedderia in Rochdale, where he continues to contribute to the community. While his recitations have taken him internationally—including trips to Pakistan—he humbly shares that he feels most connected when reciting in smaller gatherings or even in solitude. For him, the essence of naat lies in sincerity and spiritual connection rather than scale.

Beyond his recitations, Afzal is also a familiar voice on the airwaves. Since 2009, he has been hosting a weekly radio show titled Madni Aqa on Crescent Community Radio. Broadcasting every Monday from 7pm to 9pm, the show remains a consistent platform for spiritual reflection and devotional expression, continuing strong to this day.

Afzal also speaks about his family roots and spiritual connections to Rajdhani in Azad Kashmir, as well as Chura Shareef in Attock, Pakistan—places that hold deep personal and spiritual significance for him.

This interview offers a rare and personal glimpse into the life of a devoted artist whose work continues to inspire many. From his early beginnings to his ongoing contributions, Muhammad Afzal Naqshbandi’s journey is a testament to faith, humility, and the power of devotion through voice.
